Give to the Max Day 2018

Headwaters Foundation is turning 35 in 2019 and we've radically changed philanthropy’s landscape, by creating a new grantmaking model—one that shifts power away from funders and places decision-making in the hands of the people.

This is an innovative, community-centered, trust-centered model. It is powered by meaningful giving and resource mobilization from people like you!

Will you join this Headwaters Community today?

Amplify Your Voice

In our 35 years the Headwaters community has been consistently at the megaphone as a resilient, supportive, forward looking and leader-full community because of the support of people like you.

Headwaters supporters pooled their resources and made it possible for our grant making programs to grant over $1.3 million in 2018, our biggest year yet!

Headwaters is ALL of us:

What you can make possible

You can harness the collective power of pooling your resources with thousands of others and be an amplifier of movement work like these 2018 grantees:

  • Native Governance Center: A Native American-led nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting Tribal nations in strengthening governance systems and capacity to exercise sovereignty. In 2015 Tribal leaders in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota expressed the need for an organization that would meet the expanding demand for Tribal governance-related resources and sustain this work into the long-term future.
  • Unidos MN: a grassroots organization that builds Latinx political power for immigration, education justice, and participatory democracy by engaging Latinx high school students and their families about accessing college, community service   internship opportunities, and civic and voter engagement.
  • Women Organizing Women (WOW) Network:working to inspire East African women to harness their power, become involved in the political process of their city and examine and dismantle the major barriers to their political participation. One of the founding women of WOW Network is State Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Beyond the Dollars

At Headwaters, we believe that change is created by individuals who have the courage to stand up, the wisdom to join together, and the support to create durable, sustainable solutions. We created the Movement Leadership Project to deepen our commitment to grantees by investing in deep relationship building among social change leaders and fostering cross-movement collaboration. Headwaters is committed to investing time, space, partnerships and network of relationships to support participants of the Movement Leadership Project. Read More.
