About the Artwork
"Being an artist is a way of life. My practice invites me to think differently about the world. I enjoy taking something from my life and moving the hike or observation into new form. In making the work that you see, my goal was to process the overwhelming green of last July at Belwin Nature Conservancy, and to offer my connections and desire to connect with the land and my heritage as an African American.
The red is not blood, and yet I hope you find connection to the landscape which is a source of peace and other times a source of violence. Colors in this print were a source of comfort for me. My eyes were looking for color as a source of rest, and I hope to develop a relationship to the land that is grounded in safety and ease."
