About The Artist
Michael Hoyt resides in Minneapolis where he is an independent artist and an arts administrator. For over 25 years Hoyt has been producing, managing, and directing arts-based community development projects and youth development programs, while making art in and with his South Minneapolis community. Hoyt’s work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and abroad. His creative practice includes drawing, painting, graphic storytelling, network technology, public participation, and community land stewardship.  He believes that art and creativity can serve as a critical catalyst for social and political change. He builds cross-sector platforms that engage people in deliberative dialogue, illuminate concealed stories, and advance equity.
About the Artwork
Plunge: A portrait of an international transracially adopted person returning to their ancestral home. It represents the slow and complicated path towards decolonization, racial and ethnic reclamation, against the backdrop of white hegemony.
