Somali American Women Action Center

Grantee Year:

“SEWING 4 LIVING” targets to improve the well-being of the immigrant women by providing the skills of sewing and cutting so that they can uplift their living standards and reduce the economic and social disparities these women face while it increases their ability to be self-sufficient. This project hopes to break the cycle of poverty by piloting a year-long sewing training and entrepreneurship program targeting undeserved immigrant women in Hennepin and Ramsey counties in Minnesota. The aim of this program is to raise women’s motivation to generate their income through sewing activity, provide a coaching series, and to support women in entrepreneurship through the creation of clothing line.
