How to join the Giving Project
Thank you for your interest! Headwaters will be accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Giving Project starting April 13 - May 18.
Giving Projects are cross-class, multi-racial, multi-generational cohorts that come together over the course of 6 months to move money to grassroots, community-based organizations across Minnesota led by and for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) that use community organizing as a core strategy to advance equity and justice.
The program is powerful, challenging, and fun. It is a hands-on experience that will shift your thinking about money and give you tangible ways to act for social change.
I want to apply! What are the next steps?
One great way to learn if the Giving Project is a good fit for you is to attend or watch an info session. We host info sessions for you to better understand the program, hear from alumni about their experience, and ask questions you may have.

When you're ready to apply:
Your first step is to fill out and submit an online application by May 18
Headwaters staff will review applications on a rolling basis as they come in.
The Giving Project is a space that brings people from all different identities together to move through a shared process of learning and action. As such, we work hard to curate a cohort that spans the spectrum of many intersecting identities including but not limited to race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability.
Headwaters centers Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color in each Giving Project cohort. We also prioritize LGBTQ+ folks and participants from diverse age and class backgrounds.
If your application moves forward in the process, a Headwaters staff member will set up a time to further discuss your interest in the Giving Project. We often have more applicants than spaces available in the program.
We will notify all applicants whether they have been selected for the cohort by early August.
