Anitra leads and supports the program team and advances Headwaters’ mission by overseeing its grantmaking programs. She describes herself as an educator, communicator, coach and compassionate questioner who has 20 years of experience in higher education, with expertise in the areas of intersectional women's and gender equity; Black women's administrative leadership; and DEIJ in organizational communications. Her experience in program leadership and development, as well as her commitment to creative, feminist, and Afrofuturist changemaking have led her to Headwaters, where she works to drive that change through philanthropy and donor organizing.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Anitra has called Minnesota home for two decades. She proudly represents St. Paul, where she lives with her two weird cats. In her spare time, she writes essays and poetry, works on her family tree, enjoys a good cup of tea, and spends a lot of time analyzing pop culture (ask her about Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Scandal).
