Janiece Watts
Janiece joins the Headwaters board as a Giving Project cohort 2 alum and an environmental justice advocate. She has over 10 years of organizing experience in health care, food justice, zero waste, and labor rights. Having worked in several nonprofits, Janiece sees the way oppression is perpetuated in work meant to solve these problems. She learned so much about fundraising and grant-making through the Giving Project, but she is very clear on why this work is not philanthropy. She recognizes the impact of donor organizing, of reaching to the community to fund movements and to speak explicitly about race class and social justice.
Janiece is a policy associate for the Energy Access and Equity program at Fresh Energy. She has a B.A. in Political Science and Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of Minnesota, and lives in Saint Paul.
